Anniversary Quilt Complete! from Humble Quilts

This quilt has been on my bed but I did get some time to photograph it for my blog.

Hubby and I have our 40th anniversary this year.

I love that Sharon added this cute curly tail.

I know you all like to see the back of my quilts.

And one more time to entire quilt.

Thank you for all your encouragement!

Here's a little peak at the quilt! I'm going to be preparing for a lecture and will get it hung and photographed soon! I'll share it up close and personal.
I love it!

Thanks for the great tips to get a foot pedal and power cord!! I'm working on it!

Productive Weekend from Humble Quilts

Over the weekend I managed to get the binding sewn on the Anniversary Quilt. It is 94x88. I'm feeling great that I am at the stage of hand sewing the binding down.

I asked Sharon to quilt in a few words and she asked if she could put in a few more. I love the up close and personal view we get when hand sewing the binding.

I got a little more machine applique done on the bird sampler, Cousin's Walk. Funny, the other night I had a great idea for a different border, but for the life ...

Motley Monday from Humble Quilts

I got a little of this and that today.

Here's a sneak peak of the anniversary quilt! It's going to take me a bit to get the binding applied. Sharon Tucker did a great job! Thank you Sharon! If you are looking for a quilter on the west coast Sharon is in WA and I highly recommend her. She is great at communicating before she gets started on your quilt. Check her out at Grass Roots Quilting.

Anybody notice a problem with this binding?  Ugh! I did several seams this way!!

We have over 50 swappers! (there is ...

Fun on a Friday from Humble Quilts

I'm working on the final border!

It is slow going since my sewing room is so chilly.

Next weekend I am getting together with friends for a sewing retreat. This quilt top will be completed and backing made!

I'm preparing to do another string class with a guild and you can join in!  Find the link to Columbia River Gorge Quilters Guild HERE

I think I shared the link to the Iowa Quilt Museum special exhibit "String Theory"
It was just a sneak peak. Now you can purchase a look at all of the quilts! Angie shared the ...

Wednesday Tidbits from Humble Quilts

For those of you who inquired about the quilt I am working on, here it is.

If you do not have this book, Jan reprinted the pattern and it is available on her website HERE.

As I look forward to completing the applique on the final border I also start considering my backing.

This is my preliminary sketch of my backing. I do plan on having this machine quilted so am adding 8" to both sides to accommodate.  As you can see this is inaccurate but gives me a visual of what I'll need to do.
This is a ...

Anniversary Quilt from Humble Quilts

I got my second border appliqued and attached! Woot!Woot!
It is going to be another ginormous quilt!
The left border is what I got completed this weekend,
I added to the lower corner after attaching the border and will still need to applique the stem and the woman.

 One more border to go!

Let's have an amazing week!

Anniversary Quilt Update from Humble Quilts

I've had a hard time focusing this past week. Just to focus on one thing has been hard!
I had an online guild meeting Monday and I'm prepping for an applique class, so bouncing from one thing to the next.

I finally made it into my sewing room for a little bit this week,

I added this rooster to the border I had completed, but had a big empty space that needed something. I think it turned out cute.

And got started on the next border, pig, basket, flower complete!

I challenged my friend to a minimum of ...

Anniversary Quilt Update from Humble Quilts

I have the bottom border of Jan Patek's anniversary quilt appliqued and attached! There are a couple of gaps that I will likely fill in with more applique.

The little log cabin was fun to do and so cute! I'm doing most of the applique in black thread to keep the primitive feel.

I am the coordinator for our church's Angel Tree program. Els, Cory and I finished delivering presents this weekend.

After that was complete we made it out for a short hike. We don't have snow in our area yet, and none in the ...

Log Cabins from Humble Quilts

Here is the log cabin block for the Anniversary Quilt I'm working on. The borders are ready to applique! I pieced the strips on this one, then applied the fusible.

One purchase I have NEVER regretted is the applique pressing sheet. Check it out HERE. (this is one of many sites with this product)

This log cabin has 7 pieces. I can lay them all out on the pressing sheet, move them into the correct place, then press. The pieces all stick together, but once it cools I can lift it off the teflon sheet. Now I can place ...

Primitive Pieces from Humble Quilts

Now that the Bushong Quilt is complete, its time to get back to this one.

I think this will be a fun primitive piece to work on this winter. The borders on this quilt are a whopping 12" all full of various applique.
The top center has embroidery that you cannot see so I'm considering adding them in applique.
I'd like to do that before adding on the top piece so I'm not having to put it all under the needle, just that smaller top section.

And here is where you can find the pattern .

I've ...

Quilt Retreat Update from Humble Quilts

Last weekend we had a terrific time in Central Oregon sewing! I'm calling it a quilt retreat, although it was just 4 friends needing to stay sane,  get together, have fun and sew!

Here's a little of what we did.

This is called the Anniversary Quilt designed by Jan Patek. I started it this year as a large Humble Quilt quiltalong, then this year spiraled out of control. As far as I know Dorothy R is the only one who has it completed. I still have a big busy appliqued border to add.

Sue from NZ found this ...

Anniversary Quilt Part 3 from Humble Quilts

I've got one more block completed! Whoop! Whoop!
Still pretty slow going, but that's the way it is for now.

Some days I'm feeling just great.... riding the waves and then other days I feel like I'm crashing. I'm staying away from the news but get the daily Covid update for our county. We didn't have any cases for weeks now we are up to 85, which doesn't sound like a lot but we are very rural.  I try and stress to our employees (and husband!) not to let our guard down! We ...

Anniversary Quilt 2020 Month 2 from Humble Quilts

It's been a bit over a month, and although many have set this quilt aside for now, I'm plugging along. Still only one block sewn, but more blocks ready, including this one!

Bet you could hardly tell the backing was 6 pieces!! Yep! It's how I roll.

Sometimes how I roll works, and sometimes it doesn't. I have no idea at all how this piece got so small!! I did a do-over on this piece.

Anybody else want to share your Anniversary quilt section? I'd love to add what you've got done to the ...

Anniversary Quilt update from Humble Quilts

Block #2 is not sewn but ready to start.

This seems to be the best method to find what fabric I want to use. HeeHee Good thing I can leave that for a few days.

Wide open desert spaces! Keeps me sane.

If my daughter doesn't get any financial aid soon(like disaster unemployment) it is likely she will need to store all of her apt in a storage unit and stay with us till this thing blows over.
I've been encouraging her to stay the course and not come home because we are exposed to many people ...

The pieced top section.

Here is Dorothy's top so far! Wow! Looking super!!
The blue is sparkling!!
Here is Maureen's block! Love that green!!
And her sweet angel!

If you are wondering what pattern this is, it is this one designed by Jan Patek in her book Together Again. She has made the pattern available on her website.
I am doing this one as my Humble Quilt 2020 quiltalong ...

Buhl Bushong Quilt from Humble Quilts

The lighting in my sewing room isn't very good but here are my blocks so far. There are 16 total, YAY! Half way! The corners also have applique but will not do those until I start assembling the these blocks.

Anniversary Quilt 2020 update:
How do you all feel about continuing this quilt? There are many  quiltalongs going on, which I encourage you to do while we cannot be together in real life. Because ours was going to be spread out it isn't really a communal sewalong.  Someone already told me they'd like to set theirs aside ...

Anniversary Quilt 2020 Quiltalong- Let's Get Started! from Humble Quilts

This is your upcoming assignment. I hope you've started getting your background cut/pieced and patterns traced.
Get the top section pieced and angel appliqued, if you plan on adding the angel. When tracing the pattern I was surprised at how HUGE she was!

Mine is fused, but not appliqued yet.
Get one 30" block appliqued. This is a lot of work, so I'm planning on a little more than 1 month to complete this. I need to do a final press on my fusible, then start the applique.

I'm heading to a quilt show! If you'll be at Kitsap Quilters Show and you see me, please say hi!
I had the pleasure of speaking at 2 guilds this past year in Gig Harbor and Port Orchard. it is such a beautiful area and I'm looking forward to going!
Here's the link- https://kitsapquilters.com/quilt-show/

I had the pleasure of meeting Debbie who is now living in Central Oregon. She finished her Sweet land of Liberty top. We did this as a Humble Quilt sewalong and you can use the search box in the ...
